4 Spring Trends in Plus Size Fashion
March 27 2018 – Zoe Schuler
This time of year, the weather in the Midwest usually plays tricks on us by giving us a 50 degree day followed by a snow storm. We swear Spring is right around the corner. We're feeling anxious for the warmer temps and blooms too! Just because the weather may not scream Spring (yet!), doesn't mean your wardrobe can't reflect the best spring fashions. New spring styles are arriving daily at the boutique and we have outlined our top 4 spring trends in this blog post.
1. Florals & Embroidery
It seems to be the year of floral prints. We saw lots of pretty winter florals over the past few months and now that spring is here, you'll start to see floral prints in pastels and brighter shades. The prints range from smaller ditsy floral to large printed botanical and abstract blooms and even floral embroidery.
If you love floral prints, you won't have a hard time finding pretty prints on all types of clothing, including: dresses, tunics, leggings, blouses, handbags and more. If you're on the fence about floral prints, a great way to incorporate this trend into your spring wardrobe is by layering a floral tank or blouse under a blazer or cardigan. Embroidered pieces usually have some floral designs strategically placed but they're not over-the-top. You don't have to wear a trend head to toe to be fashionable.
Some of our favorite florals at the boutique are the Karen Kane Plus Size Ruffle Side Slit Top ($114), the Embroidery Tee by Dex Plus ($46) and the Karen Kane Flare Sleeve Taylor Dress ($144).
2. Pastels
We know that declaring pastels a spring trend is nothing new. However, what is new is how clothing brands are incorporating pastels into their spring collections. Instead of offering a pastel blouse, dress or cardigan, more brands are offering pastels in unexpected ways. For example, a pastel sweatshirt or activewear in softer shades. We're also seeing pastels in denim, leggings, workwear, tunics and more.
Some of our favorite pastel pieces at z.bella boutique include this ultra soft Fresh Produce Sunset Sweatshirt in cucumber ($79), a soft blue striped button up from Dex Plus ($59) and this romantic bell sleeve top from Karen Kane ($124).
3. Outerwear
Spring is a great time to have fun with layering. In Wisconsin the weather can change from day to day. One day you might need to wear a cardigan and winter coat while the next day you might just need a lightweight jacket or a raincoat.
Use the weather to your [fashion] advantage and dress in layers. You can really make a stylish statement each time you add or take off a layer if you put a little thought into your outfit.
Remember that lightweight jackets/outerwear don't need to only be worn outdoors. Coordinate your entire outfit with your jacket so you have the option to keep it on inside.
Our favorite spring jacket at the boutique is this fab, edgy camo jacket from Dex Plus ($79).
4. Crochet
As the temperatures climb, adding clothing with crochet detail is a great way to look like you're ready for spring. You'll notice crochet details incorporated into spring fashion in a variety of ways. For example, a crochet cold shoulder on a top, a crochet stripe down a sleeve, center or back of a blouse or a crochet panel in the back of a shirt. Some crochet pieces show your skin and others have a layer of fabric behind the crochet so you can choose to be a bit more modest.
Some of our favorite pieces with crochet detail include the Twofer Cardigan by Dex Plus ($64), the Cold Shoulder Crochet Tape Applique Top ($49) and this Cap Sleeve Lace Yoke Pull Over Top ($42).
