As the clock strikes midnight and we collectively cheer for the new year, we also enter what I like to call “Resolution Season.” It’s that magical (read: exhausting) time when the world seems laser-focused on shrinking—waistlines, bodies, appetites. And as a plus-size woman, I’m here to say: it’s time for a new mantra: New Year, Same Amazing You.

Hear me out: What if this year, instead of resolving to fight our bodies, we choose to love them instead? Imagine if you replaced even half of the negative thoughts about yourself with something positive or productive. Think of how much time you’d save—and what a weight lifted off your shoulders it would feel like—and what a better mindset you’d have to show for it!

Here are a few ways to embrace the idea of loving yourself just as you are for 2025:

1. Turn Down the Noise

You don’t have to listen to diet talk at every family gathering or scroll past influencers shouting “New Year, New You!” on Instagram. Unfollow accounts that don’t make you feel good. Fill your feed with people who look like you, celebrate their bodies, and inspire joy. Bonus: Your timeline will instantly be way more interesting.

2. Redirect the Conversation

When your friends start talking about cutting carbs or counting points, change the subject. There are so many better things to chat about! (Did you see that wild celebrity fashion moment last week? Who’s got the best streaming recommendations? Let’s dish!)

3. Be Kind to Yourself—Out Loud

Especially if you’re around kids. Every time you catch yourself thinking something negative about your body, hit pause. Would you say that about your best friend? Your daughter? No? Then don’t say it about yourself. Your body is listening.

4. Don’t Wait on the Weight

This is a big one. Stop waiting for some mythical “goal weight” to buy the dress or wear the sparkly top. The perfect size is the one you are today. And that special occasion you’ve been saving it for? Today is the occasion. You’re alive. You’re beautiful. Put it on and strut like the queen you are.

5. Treat Yourself Like Your Own Best Friend

Would you spend hours tearing down your bestie’s confidence in front of the mirror? Of course not. So why do it to yourself? Replace self-criticism with self-celebration. Start small: Instead of “I hate my arms,” try “Wow, my arms are strong and carry so much for me.”

6. Make a Resolution That’s Actually Fun

Who says resolutions have to be about restriction? Resolve to have more dance parties in your kitchen. To wear red lipstick on random Wednesdays. To find pants that don’t pinch or shoes that feel like clouds. Resolve to love your body, your style, and your life—just as they are right now.

The truth is, you’re enough already. Your value isn’t tied to the number on a scale, the size on a tag, or the opinions of strangers. You deserve to feel beautiful, special, and loved—not someday, but today.

So here’s to 2025: A year where we spend less time battling the mirror and more time loving the person looking back at us. A year where we embrace joy, confidence, and clothes that make us feel unstoppable.
